Dry Dog Food (Kibble)
If you choose to feed your dog kibble (dry food), it's important to know what ingredients are in it. Many commercial dog foods contain meat by-products, which may include the animal parts that are unfit for human consumption, sometimes containing diseased or even cancerous animal parts. They also may contain artificial ingredients such as preservatives, dyes, fillers, etc. There is, however, high-quality kibble available that contains human grade, wholesome ingredients and is truly a natural and holistic dog food.
Some dogs may have allergy problems from grains that are found in many dry dog food varieties, but it is possible to find high-quality grain-free kibble.
My dogs have been on Taste of the Wild dry dog food for probably over a year. I rotate the flavors. I don't know if it's a coincidence or whether this grain-free natural and holistic dry dog food has improved the health of both dogs.
My 7-year-old collie/terrier mix has had something wrong with his right back leg for several years and at one time was unable to jump on or off of our deck and wasn't very active because of his pain. Now, after being on Taste of the Wild dry dog food for over a year, he is able to get on and off of our deck and also chases our other dog and is generally more playful.
My 4-year-old Jack Russell had a grand mal seizure almost 1 year ago but has not had one since.
Another thing I have noticed is that neither dog got fleas or ticks this summer, and they were not treated with any flea or tick solutions, natural or otherwise. The only thing different is their diet. This is the first summer they haven't had fleas and ticks. Coincidence? I don't know, but as long as they do well and like their food, I'm happy to stick with it.
